Judge Andrea R. Trevino
ANDREA R. TREVINO
JUDGE
ALLEN SUPERIOR COURT
Honorable Andrea R. Trevino
Judge Andrea R. Trevino has been a part of Allen County’s judiciary since 2013. She first served as Magistrate in the Allen Circuit Court where she presided primarily over the Allen Circuit Court IV-D Division, but also heard criminal, civil, and family relations matters. In March of 2018, Trevino was appointed Judge of Allen Superior Court #7 by Governor Eric Holcomb. In that capacity, Judge Trevino presides over family and juvenile matters and oversees the Allen County Learning Academy, the Allen County Juvenile Probation Department, and the Allen County Juvenile Center- a secure detention facility.
Judge Trevino grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she graduated from South Side High School. She is a 1999 graduate of Saint Joseph’s College, and in 2003, she received her J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law (now the Maurer School of Law). Before becoming a Magistrate, Judge Trevino practiced law for approximately 10 years. During that time, her practice was primarily concentrated in the areas of family law, civil litigation, and appellate work. Judge Trevino has experience arguing cases in various trial courts around the State and was chosen to present oral arguments to both the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. She also served as Guardian Ad Litem for children involved in custody or parenting time disputes.
While an attorney, Trevino was a volunteer for Legal Line, a program sponsored by the Allen County Bar Association that provides free legal advice to callers in need. She also dedicated time to local youths, serving as a soccer coach for the Fort Wayne Sport Club, a cheerleading coach at South Side High School, and a soccer coach at Canterbury Middle School. Judge Trevino is a past President and Board Member of the South Side Alumni Association and served on the South Side Foundation where she dedicated her efforts to granting scholarships to deserving students. She also previously served on the Board of the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Family & Conciliation Courts. In 2014, The Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly named Trevino to its “Top Forty Under 40,” an honor bestowed upon individuals younger than 40 who are making a difference in northeast Indiana both on the job and in the community.
Shortly after appointing Judge Trevino to the Superior Court bench, the Governor appointed Trevino to the Board of Trustees of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for which she served on the Subcommittees for Youth, Drug & Crime, and the Exoneration Fund. Judge Trevino was also chosen to serve on Indiana’s Juvenile Justice State Advisory Group where she assisted on the Compliance Monitoring Subcommittee and the Annual Report Subcommittee. Additionally, the Indiana Supreme Court selected Judge Trevino to serve multiple terms on the Juvenile Justice Improvement Committee and Chief Justice Loretta Rush named Trevino the Chair of the committee. The Indiana Supreme Court also named Judge Trevino to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and a Co-Chair of the Screening & Assessment Work Group supporting the Youth Justice Oversight Committee established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2022. In 2020, at age 43, Trevino became the youngest woman to serve a term as Superior Court’s Chief Judge. That same year, Trevino was also chosen as the Administrative Judge of the Court’s Family Relations Division.
Locally, Judge Trevino is a member of the Allen County Community Corrections Advisory Board, the Allen County Local JRAC Committee, and the Fort Wayne United Steering Committee. In 2022, the United Front Initiative awarded Trevino the Shared Humanity Organizational Ambassador Award. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Allen County Bar Foundation, Inc. and served as a member of the Allen County Bar Association’s Family Law Executive Committee.
Since joining Allen County’s judiciary, Trevino has focused on community collaborations and innovative programming aimed at improving the lives of youth and families. While serving as Magistrate, Trevino started a partnership between the Allen Circuit Court and WorkOne of Northeast Indiana to provide employment, education, and vocational rehabilitation services to parents who owed child support – the first of its kind in the county. As the Superior Court Judge, Trevino pioneered classroom-to careers pathways for justice-involved youth including the Career Exploration Academy, a training program for youth on probation which introduces them to various trades; and a hands-on VR simulation training program that teaches critical skills for in-demand jobs in fields such as automotive, manufacturing, hospitality, and healthcare. The program was one of the very first in the nation to focus on youth on probation and in secure detention, and in 2024, the VR program was nominated for the Institute of Workforce Excellence’s “Innovative Program of the Year.”
Judge Trevino has also placed emphasis on diversifying mental health and substance abuse treatment options for youth. In response to an increase in adolescent deaths due to fatal overdoses in Allen County from synthetic opioids, including illicitly manufactured fentanyl, along with the delays experienced by many youth getting into substance abuse treatment programs, Trevino created the Bridges to Recovery program, a no-cost educational initiative designed to support youth and their families and connect youth to community resources while awaiting treatment. Under Judge Trevino’s leadership, youth may also be ordered to or given the opportunity to participate in Moral Reconation Therapy, Thinking Errors courses, Drug & Alcohol Counseling, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Assessments, Psychological Assessments, Individual and Family Counseling, Casework Services, mentoring activities, gang and firearms prevention education, theft prevention programs, music therapy, and other individually tailored treatment plans.
Judge Trevino regularly serves as a lecturer on topics in the areas of domestic relations and juvenile delinquency. The Indiana Office of Court Services selected Trevino to participate in the National Judicial College’s Faculty Development Program aimed at training presenters/lecturers for statewide and/or national judicial conferences.
